Traffic police expedite monitoring of public vehicles

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 26

Traffic police have expedited inspection and monitoring of public vehicles in Kathmandu valley to ensure that they follow health guidelines and other requirements specified by the government to prevent and control COVID-19.

Senior Superintendent of Police Bhim Prasad Dhakal, in-charge at Metropolitan Traffic Police Division said inspection and monitoring teams had issued warning to more than 900 vehicles in two days for breach of health guidelines.

They were found carrying passengers beyond prescribed seat limits, allowing passengers without wearing face masks and neglecting arrangement of hand-sanitisers.

Traffic cops also warned transport entrepreneurs and workers against charging exorbitant fare. SSP Dhakal also appealed to all to call traffic police hotline (103) if they were charged fare higher than the rates fixed by the government.

The government had recently decided to allow the operation of public transport, including taxis.
