Government bans Jagadamba Steels rods

Kathmandu, 14 September: The government has restricted distribution and sales of the Jagadamba Steels manufactured iron rods on the charge of failing to meet the quality and standard. The government has also started the procedure to take legal action against the manufacturing company under the Shankar Group.
The company is found cheating the consumers by claiming No 1 brand. When the Nepal Standards and Metrology Department found the manufacturing company producing low-quality products, it has decided to take legal action against the company after banning its products from sales and distribution.
On Friday, the Department wrote a letter to the Jagadamba Steels to stop the supply of 16 AMM TMT Bar iron rods in the market. The Department has also decided to seize and scrap 300 Metric Tons of iron rods from the market.
The iron rods manufactured by the company had failed to meet the quality and standard when the Department tested the products at its lab.
Shankar Group, established in 1979 is run by Sahil Agrawal’s family. Sulav Agrawal, a member of the Group, was arrested by the Nepal Police red-handed on the charge of black-marketing of the thermo-gun in April. Presently, the Group owns around a dozen companies including the Jagadamba Cement.
