MPs illegally taking Dasain allowance


Kathmandu, 18 October: At a time when all sectors have been affected from the Covid-19 pandemic and infected patients are unable to get beds in hospitals, there is the shortage of oxygen and ventilator for the treatment, people are losing their job and they suffering from hunger, MPs of the federal parliament and provincial council have taken Dasain allowance illegally.
The parliament itself decides salary and other facilities for the MPs including their allowances. However, there is no provision of taking Dasain allowance by them, reports Naya Patrika daily.
According to the existing law endorsed by the MPs and Province Council members, there is the provision of receiving salary by the MPs. Additionally, they are receiving payment against house rent, water, electricity, communication, salary for their secretaries, meeting allowances, travel allowance. However, there is no provision of receiving Dasain allowance.
Likewise, ministers of the federal government have also received Dasain allowance.
Nevertheless, the No 1 Province and Lumbini Province have not distributed Dasain allowance.
In Province No 2, the Province Council has distributed 5.7 million rupees as Dasain allowance.
In Bagmati Province, the Province Council has distributed 8.2 million rupees as Dasain allowance.
In Gandaki Province, the Province Council has spent 5.6 million rupees as Dasain allowance.
In Karnali Province also, all political authorities including council members have received Dasain allowance.
In Sudoor Paschim Province, each Province council member has received 56 thousand rupees as Dasain allowance.
