Kathmandu, October 30
A ward chairman has been arrested for recommending an Indian national for the Nepali citizenship in Kailali district of Sudurpaschim.
Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city’s ward 12 chairman Ganesh Prasad Joshi has been arrested on the charge. He was elected to the position representing the Nepali Congress party in the 2017 elections.
The District Police Office Spokesperson, DSP Prateek Bista, says Joshi recommended Aliyas Ansari for the Nepali citizenship in March 2019.
Ansari had applied for the citizenship claiming he was the son of Puniram Chaudhary, a resident of Himmatpuur, Dhangadhi-12. Chaudhary is on the run in his bid to save himself from police action. The law enforcers, however, arrested his brother Khusiram and sister-in-law Gita.
It has been learned that Ansari had paid Rs 100,000 in cash to the Chaudhary family to convince them to fake themselves as his family members.
Further investigation is underway.
