Nepal president to confer Nepal Army’s honorary general rank on Indian Army chief on Nov 5

Kathmandu, October 28

Nepal’s President Bidya Devi Bhandari is scheduled to confer the rank of the honorary general of Nepal Army on Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane next week.

The Nepal Army says General Naravane will arrive in Kathmandu on a three-day customary visit on November 4 whereas the president will give him the honorary title the next day.

Armies of Nepal and India have been conferring the honorary general title on chiefs of each other for the past several decades. Following the same, General Naravane is coming to Nepal at the invitation of his counterpart, Purna Chandra Thapa.

The national military organisation’s Directorate of Public Relations and Information says in a statement on Tuesday that Naravane will also meet Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the defence minister, during the visit. Likewise, he will also address student officers at the Army Command and Staff College, Shivapuri.
