Government-Dr KC ink 8-point agreement, Dr KC ends fast onto death

Kathmandu, 11 October: Dr Govinda KC, who was on fast onto death for the last 27 days, has ended his hunger strike following an eight-point agreement between him and the government.

On Saturday midnight, the agreement was inked by Dr KC and the government talks team. 

The eight-point agreement includes different demands put forward by Dr KC for improvement in the health sector. 

Start of MBBS study in Karnali Health and Science Academy in Jumla from the coming session, accordingly, start of the MBBC study in other health academies within three years are the major deal made between Dr KC and the government.

Endorsement of integrated health education bill from the upcoming parliament session to start MBBS study from the Geta Medical Collage in the Far West; development of infrastructure to run the Bardibas Medical College; allocation of enough budget to run MBBS study in Pokhara Health and Science Academy; the opening of medical colleges in Doti or Dadeldhira and Ilam or Panchthar; development of necessary infrastructure of the Ramrajaprasad Singh Health and Science Academy; appointment of the officials in the Tribhuvan University and other academies based on seniority through a transparent and impartial manner and amendment of the Health Education Law as per the recommendation of the Health Education Commission are the demands addressed by the government. 

Accordingly, the agreement includes increasing PCR test and increasing capability of the government hospitals for treatment of the Covid-19 and other patients. 

This is the 19th fast onto death staged by Dr KC demanding improvement in the health sector.
