Biratnagar Airport to be upgraded as an international airport

Kathmandu, 6 September: The Tourism and Civil Aviation Ministry and the Civil Aviation Authority have inked a memorandum of understanding with the No 1 Provincial government and Biratnagar Metropolis Corporation to upgrade Biratnagar Airport as an international airport. 

As per the understanding, the federal government will invest 50 percent, the provincial government will invest 40 percent and the Biratnagar Metropolis will invest 10 percent of the expenditure for the upgrading of the airport.

As per the understanding, the airport runway will be expanded to 3000 meters by acquiring land. Also, it has been agreed to construct a new terminal building and other necessary constructions.
