Yubraj Khatiwada as shadow finance minister

Kathmandu, 16 September: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has appointed Yubraj Khatiwada, outgoing finance minister as his special financial advisor.

It is believed that Khatiwada will continue to look after the finance ministry as the shadow minister.

There is the possibility of the PM himself keeping the finance portfolio with him and Khatiwada may look after the ministry at the capacity of an advisor. Otherwise, a junior most minister can be assigned as the finance minister dominated by Khatiwada.

Pushpakalam Dahal and Madhav Nepal were against Khatiwada’s nomination. Therefore, they had asked Oli for not taking any political decisions without discussing in the Party Secretariat.

Oli, so far, even didn’t put the agenda of Khatiwada’s nomination at the cabinet meeting, however, the newly assigned government’s spokesman and foreign minister Pradeep Gyawali on Tuesday evening informed to the press about the government decision.

Oli is also willing to reassign Gokul Banskota as the minister. Banskota was ousted from Oli’s cabinet after being alleged for planning billions of rupees worth commission on the purchase of a security press.

Along with Khatiwada’s nomination, the possibility of Bamdev Gautam’s assignment as the minister has become rare. Gautam is eying on the post of the finance minister after his nomination to the National Assembly.
