Nepali train arrives in Janakpur

Kathmandu, 19 September: Finally after a long wait, the Nepali train has arrived in Janakpur from India on Friday. The train conducted a test operation on the newly built railway track.
After the arrival of the train, it was handed over to the General Manager of the Nepal Railway Company Limited Guru Prasad Bhattarai by Konkan Railway Corporation Limited Mechanical Chief Deepak Tripathi.
A large gathering of locals welcomed the new train purchased by the Nepal government from the Indian government by paying 839.3 million rupees.
The Nepal Railway Company is preparing to operate the train from Kurta of Dhanusha to Jainagar, India, however, due to the lack of staff and laws, the railway service cannot be resumed soon.
The government is planning to issue a law related to the railway through an ordinance in the absence of the parliament session. Also, the company is planning to employ Indian staffers to start the railway service.
Nepal has a century-old history of operation of the railway service. The Nepal Janakpur-Jainagar Railway, established by the Rana rulers was in operation until six years ago. Accordingly, there was another railway service, Nepal Government Railway (NGR) operating from Raxul, India to Simara. That was closed some decades ago.
