Hungry people didn’t get food on constitution day

Kathmandu, 20 September: The government was celebrating the fifth constitution day at the Nepal Army Pavilion on the occasion of the promulgation of the constitution on 19 September. One after another VIPs were arriving at the Pavilion to attend the function. On the other side of the Pavilion, the Open Theater, where around 500 hungry people were gathered to receive a meal served by the Hundred Group. They were waiting for the meal carrying an empty paper plate. Meanwhile, the security personnel informed the social workers belonging to the Hundred Group for not serving the meal as the constitution day was being observed at the Army Pavilion. The social workers were requesting the security personnel to allow distributing meal as it was going to be cold.
Due to the government announced months-long lockdown, many people have lost their job and they are unable to manage two-time meals. For months, the Hundred Group is serving a one-time meal to the hungry people.
At a time when Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was explaining the achievements made by the government since the constitution was promulgated, nearby the venue, the next side of the Pavilion, hungry people were waiting for food carrying an empty paper plate. The cruel government which is claiming that no one will die from hunger didn’t allow permission to distribute food as the Prime Minister and President were attending the function!
Helicopters started to fly in the sky to drop flowers at the venue on the occasion of the constitution day. Those hungry people started to hold the empty paper plate strongly as it could be swept away from the helicopter discharged wind. The scene was very pathetic.
