More than 93,000 take civil service exams

A total of 93,012 examinees appeared in examinations for various posts in the civil service in the fiscal year 2019-20, said the Public Service Commission. According to the 61st annual report released by the PSC earlier this week, of the total candidates, 35,866 were females and 57,146 were males. In local service, as many as 306,311 examinees, including 154,002 females and 152,317 males took the exams.

Majority of the examinees sat for the exams conducted for the post of section officer (gazetted third class officer) and nayab subba (non-gazetted first class officer). The report said that only 14.2 per cent of them made it through to the second phase of the exams. Likewise, the PSC published 684 notices for the promotion of 4,754 persons, besides advertising for internal competition, open competition and appointment of candidates under inclusive groups during the fiscal 2019- 20. A total of 451,526 applications were received online for promotion, and internal and open competition.

The PSC developed 3,206 modified question papers for the examination of candidates vying for various posts in civil service, local service, security agencies, corporate bodies and district judges. None of the examinees, who appeared in the exams for 12 posts under eight vacancy announcements, could make it through the tests. “

The PSC made recommendations to the Government of Nepal for permanency of 304 candidates under civil service on the basis of scores they secured in the exams. The number of recommendations for permanency of employees dropped during the last fiscal after it was compelled to suspend various exams due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” says the report. R

egarding the fulfilment of vacancy under inclusive groups, the PSC recommended appointment of 103 candidates. With this, the number of inclusive candidates recommended for different posts over a period of the past 13 years has reached 21,649. As many as 116,297, including 41,824 females and 74,473 males, sat for exams in the four security agencies (Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department) and 29 corporate bodies during fiscal 2019-20. Of them, a total of 18,049 candidates (5,502 females and 12,547 males) were selected for interview.

The PSC also revised 23 curricula for various posts and levels in civil service and security agencies.
