Controversial figure Upendra Koirala to become Rashtriya Banijya Bank chairman


Kathmandu, 26 August: The government has appointed Upendra Koirala as the board member of the Rashtriya Banijya Bank with the plan of assigning him the chairman of the Bank. The board meeting of the Bank scheduled for today is going to assign him as the chairman of the Bank.
Koirala, the father-in-law of DPM Ishwor Pokhrel’s son, is known to be a controversial figure who was involved in corruption in the past.
Koirala is enjoying different positions whenever the then UML and now NCP runs the government, reports different dailies.
In the past, Koirala was appointed the executive chairman of the Nepal Oil Corporation when Pokharel was the minister for commerce and supplies.
The UML’s government formed after the 2006 People’s Movement had appointed him as the vice-chairperson of the then Higher Secondary Education Board. He had to quit the post following an investigation initiated by the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament on the allegation of corruption.
Later, he was appointed the vice-chancellor of Mid-Western University. There also, he was alleged for being involved in corruption.
