The government has extended the suspension on long-route transportation and domestic flights until September 16.
A cabinet meeting held on Sunday evening made the decision so as to control the further spread of coronavirus infection in the country. The services have remained suspended since March when the country went on lockdown.
Before this, the government has already decided to lift the suspension on international flights from Tuesday, September 1. However, the flights will be conducted from and to a few selected countries only where PCR tests for coronavirus are easily available. In addition, it has set many conditions so as to ensure passengers’ safety.
Earlier, the government had decided to limit the number of passengers coming to Nepal to 500 per day. But, Foreign Affairs Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Yogesh Bhattarai, and Labour and Employment Minister Rameshwar Raya Yadav proposed expanding it during the meeting yesterday, which the cabinet approved provided a few conditions are met, according to a minister.
Likewise, the government also decided to resume issuing labour permits for Nepali working wishing to go abroad.
The minister informs the government also decided to continue the suspension on the operation of schools, colleges and academic institutions until September 16.
