Lightning kills four women in Bara

Kathmandu, July 2

Two incidents of lightning have killed four women in Bara, a district in southern Nepal, on Thursday. Five others have sustained injuries.

Two women died after being hit by the flashes of lightning in Kalaiya sub-metropolitan city-12 of Bara at around 7:30 am today. The women were planting rice in their field during the incident.

DSP Gautam Mishra of the District Police Office says Aasha Devi Mahato and Halima Khatun were injured in the accident, but both breathed their last while being rushed to the Kalaiya Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, Indu Devi Mahato and Sunarpati Devi Mahato of Pheta-1 in the district died after being struck by lightning around the same time. They were also working in their field.

Five others in the locality have sustained injuries. They are being treated at Birgunj-based health facilities.
