Government planning to cut down 50 thousand civil servicemen’s posts

Kathmandu, 22 June: The government facing financial crunch due to the Covid-19 pandemic is planning to cut down a large number of civil servicemen’s posts.

The government has started the process to cut down the government posts as it failed to manage expenditure.

On the basis of the report presented by the Public Expenditure Review Commission headed by Dilliraj Khanal, the government has decided to reduce above 30 departments under the six ministries, above three hundred development committees, boards, funds and commissions.

The Commission had recommended to keep only 16 ministries under the Prime Minister’s Office.

Accordingly, the Commission had recommended to cut down 50 thousand civil servicemen’s posts along with above two dozen secretaries in the three government levels, according to the Kantipur daily.

People’s Review adds: The political leaders, under the provocation of the foreign elements, introduced expensive political system in the name of providing autonomy to the people, moreover, the political leaders neglected the numbers of the provinces and local bodies recommended by the State Restructuring Committee.

In the name of federalism, the leaders introduced a system providing employment to the party workers, which has contributed to increase non-productive expenditure of the government at large.

In real term, if the leaders want to make prosperous Nepal and happy Nepali, immediately the province structures have to be scrapped and the number of the local bodies has to be reduced.
