Today 15 Asar; national paddy day
Today is 15 Asar, culturally it is the day to eat curd and bitten rice. The day is related to paddy plantation.
In the recent years, the government has decided to observe the day as national paddy day giving priority for increasing paddy production in the country.
However, the reality is different. In spite of the government announcement for being self reliant in agriculture products, Nepal is importing paddy and even vegetables worth billions of rupees from abroad. In last 11 months only, Nepal has imported 31 billion rupees worth paddy from India.
The government has announced different subsidies for the farmers, still, there is no significant growth of agricultural products.
Unfortunate to state, when the leaders in the government are observing the national paddy day with much fanfare, farmers are unable to start paddy plantation due to shortage of fertilizer, which, the government had to manage.
