MCC agrees to extend its implementation tenure
Kathmandu, 30 June: The Nepal government and Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) have agreed to extend its implementation tenure following the Nepal government’s request to extend the “entry into force” (implementation of the project) giving reason for the delay caused by the coronavirus pandemic, reports Annapurna Post daily.
To recall, the 500 million US dollar grant project had to be implemented in May, 2019. It is believed that due to non-cooperation of Nepal Communist Party’s co-chairman Pushpakamal Dahal, the then speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara didn’t table the MCC project in the parliament in spite of the Prime Minister’s effort.
Again, when majority members of the NCP’s central committee, standing committee and party secretariat are against the American grant project, PM Oli has not dared to endorse the project from the parliament.
