Locusts invade some Tarai districts
Kathmandu, 28 June: The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has confirmed that locusts have invaded some Tarai districts.
A small group of locusts, known as Salaha, had entered Nepal Saturday morning from Bihar, India. In the evening, the number of insects was increased.
When locusts were witnessed in India some weeks ago, the Ministry had conducted a study and reached to the conclusion that there was a rare chance of locusts invading Nepal due to the Mansoon rains.
Despite the Ministry’s speculation, locusts have invaded some Tarai districts including Bara, Parsa, Sindhuli, Sarlahi and Rupandehi and some groups have flown towards the mountain districts.
Locusts destroy food crops at large scale.
