Indian road construction to inundate Nepali soil

Kathmandu, 26 May: The National Human Rights Commission has stated that the ongoing construction of 1723 kms long road near the Nepal-India border will inundate a large portion of Nepali soil in Tarai districts, Kantipur daily has reported.

The Commission, after field inspection, has prepared a report stating that India has constructed three to five miters high road around 500 miters near from the no-man’s land, from which, a large number of population in Tarai will face inundation during the rainy season this year.

The report has been prepared by Commission members Mohana Anshari and Gobinda Sharma after field inspection of 28 districts bordered with India and China.

The Commission’s meeting held on Monday has decided to submit the report to the government along with the directive to resolve the problem by holding talks with India immediately.
