Why constitution amendment agenda was removed?
Kathmandu, 28 May: Blame game has started since the government didn’t table the constitution amendment bill on Wednesday in the Parliament as per the schedule.
Minister for Law and Justice Shivamaya Tumbahamphe said that as main opposition party NC demanded some time, the government didn’t table the amendment bill. On the other hand, speculations have started on NC’s and NCP’s intention to go against the amendment. Meantime, India television channels telecasted that Nepal stepped back from the constitution amendment process.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is in a mood to rectify the constitution through a consensus motion among all the political parties in the Parliament.
NC leaders have expressed the commitment to endorse the amendment bill, however, expressed surprised on the government intention for not tabling the bill in the Parliament on Wednesday.
Normally, it takes 72 hours to mature the bill and within the time, NC CWC meeting could take place, the NC leaders are saying.
The government has planned to change Nepal’s map on emblem by incorporating Kalapani territory, for which, the government has decided to amend the constitution.
