KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 27
Hundreds of people today joined a mass demonstration organised by Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal against the government’s decision of December 20 dissolving the House of Representatives.
The party has officially denounced Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s recommendation to dissolve the HoR, which was approved by President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.
The demonstration led by the party’s senior leaders was joined by people and the party’s cadres who first gathered at Shanti Batika in Kathmandu and marched towards Putalisadak and Padmodaya Mode. The rally than converged into a mass meet at Shanti Batika.
Top leaders of the party, including Baburam Bhattarai, Mahantha Thakur, Rajendra Mahato and Ashok Rai, led the protest rally.
They held placards and chanted slogans demanding reinstatement of the House.
Addressing the mass, former PM Bhattarai asked all to join the protest against the ‘unconstitutional’ move of the PM. He also said Oli’s act was a regressive step taken against the spirit of our constitution. “PM Oli is pushing the country backward, this has been proved by his past actions against federalism,” Bhattarai said.
Urging the main opposition Nepali Congress to join the protest against the government, he said Oli had dissolved the House not in a bid to go for fresh mandate but to prolong his premiership.
“Even the King had dissolved the House stating he would hold election. Let the NC come out of the illusion that there will be election.” He also criticised the PM for inducting new federal ministers at a time when he himself has announced the dates for mid-term elections. He reminded people of what he did when he dissolved the Constituent Assembly in 2012.
JSP-N senior leader Rajendra Mahato told the mass that the party would protest against the unconstitutional move from the street until the House was reinstated.
