Parliament becomes hostage of Oli-Dahal row on speaker

Kathmandu, 14 January: Dispute between Prime Minister and party chairman KP Sharma Oli and executive chairman Pushpakamal Dahal on naming speaker of the Federal Parliament has made the Parliament hostage of indecision for one month since start of the winter session.

Meanwhile, deputy speaker Shivamaya Tumbahamphe has challenged the NCP decision saying that she is not going to resign from the post without any allegation.

She has challenged the Party to register case against her incapability.

In accordance to the constitution, Tumbahamphe, who is practically not the general member of the Party, is not bound to follow the Party whip.

Except from her resignation on her own wish, the Party cannot compel her to quit the post.

As per the constitution, speaker and deputy speaker cannot be from one single party.

Tumbahamphe has also claimed for the speaker’s post.

The present dispute between the two party chairmen has surfaced internal struggle between UML and Maoist Center. The unification was an artificial effort, it has been witnessed.
