Kathmandu, 8 December: Construction process of the proposed Nijgadh International Airport had been derailed on the issue of deforestation.
The Supreme Court, responding a writ petition, has ordered the government to stop all the process for constructing the project. A writ petition was filed in the SC stating that the international airport should not be constructed by cutting down millions of number of trees, which are the shelter of different types of birds.
However, experts say, the project is the backbone for the country’s development, therefore, at any cost, the project should be constructed.
Debates are taking place on deforestation only, the new debate has to be started arguing the project is game changer for Nepal, experts say.
Almost all civil aviation experts attending at the 75th establishment day of the International Civil Aviation Organisation, remarked that considering urgency of next international airport, on the issue of deforestation the project works have not to be stooped.
Haribhakta Shrestha, former chief of the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority, said that until now we are on the debate of deforestation. If we feel that the project is essential for the country, we have to construct it at any cost.
Deputy director of CAAN Dwarika Bhattaai said that the government should take bold step for construction of the project of national importance.
