NCP leaders soft on MCC

Kathmandu, 29 December: Nepal Communist Party is preparing grounds to endorse the Millennium Challenge Corporation grant project defining itself as it is not the organ of the Indo-Pacific Strategy.

The American officials, including the American embassy in Kathmandu, have time and again made clear that MCC is an organ of the IPS.

The Standing Committee meeting has authorized the Party Secretariat to decide on the grant project. In the party Secretariat, majority of the members are in favour of adopting the MCC grant project. Soon, the NCP Secretariat is going to endorse the American proposal, it is believed.

Government spokesman and Minister Gokul Banskota has already gestured that MCC will be endorsed from the Federal Parliament.

Sources claim that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had wished for endorsement of the MCC grant from the previous session of the Parliament. He had expressed dissatisfaction with the then Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara for keeping impending the MCC proposal registered by the government in the Parliament.

Oli is learnt to have already expressed commitment with the American ambassador for adopting the American grant proposal.
