NCP unable to select new speaker

Kathmandu, 10 January: Party supremo-duo PM and NCP chairman KP Sharma Oli and executive chairman Pushpakamal Dahal have differed on selection of new speaker.

PM Oli wants Subhas Nembang as the new speaker, whereas, Dahal has wished the speaker’s post should be rewarded to the former Maoist. He has wished to name Agni Sapkota as the new speaker.

As both the leaders have not given up their stance, the ruling party has not been able to name new speaker, from which the federal parliament affairs has been affected.

Likewise, deputy speaker Shivamaya Tumbahamphe, with the support of President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, has claimed the speaker’s post delaying her resignation from the present post.

There is a technical problem in the constitution as both speaker and deputy speaker cannot be elected from one single party.

Tumbahamphe had to tender resignation to pave the way for the election of speaker.
