Kathmandu, March 30
Police in Kathmandu on Monday morning made 740 residents of the Kathmandu Valley stand for around two hours on the local streets after finding that they came out of the houses without any essential work, thereby defying the lockdown imposed to control the coronavirus outbreak.
After many members of the public continued to defy the lockdown order, the police in the city have adopted the new method of punishment since yesterday. While standing them on the streets, the law enforcement personnel also lectured them about why it was important to obey the lockdown order.
This morning, 654 were detained from Kathmandu district, 68 from Lalitpur and 18 from Bhaktapur. Most of the detainees are men.
Meanwhile, the police also took under control 79 two-wheelers and five four-wheelers for defying the order.
