NCP in MCC dispute

NCP in MCC dispute

Kathmandu, 19 June: Nepal Communist Party’s senor leaders have been divided into two fronts on the issue of adoption of MCC.

For some time, leaders had remained silent on the MCC issue, however, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli tried to bring into discussion the issue in the Party Secretariat meeting for two times. When he found himself in minority, at the last hours the meetings were cancelled.

When PM Oli attempted to include the in the Parliament’s schedule by bypassing the Party, co-chairman Pushpakamal Dahal and other senior leaders have started to develop strategy against Oli, reports Naya Patrika daily.

Of late, PM Oli has said that MCC has already been registered in the Parliament and thus it is the Parliament’s prerogative to endorse or reject the grant project. PM Oli has also started talks with the opposition parties.

As per the agreement, the MCC project should be implemented from 30 June. However earlier to its implementation, it should be endorsed from the Parliament. Until now, MCC has not been tabled in the Parliament and the ruling party has not been able to take decision on the controversial American grant project.

Co-chairman Dahal, senior leaders JN Khanal and Madhav Kumar Nepal along with majority Secretariat members are against endorsement of the MCC without amendment. PM Oli wants to endorse the MCC without any amendment.
