Government policy and programme: Positive, yet challengeable

Kathmandu, 16 May: The government’s policy and programme presented at the Federal Parliament yesterday has received mixed reaction from political leaders, reports Gorkhapatra daily.

Leaders from the ruling Nepal Communist Party have remarked the government policy and programme positively. However, they have expressed doubt on its implementation.

Opposition parties’ leaders have remarked that the government has not been able to include many important issues.

NCP co-chairman Pushpakamal Dahal has remarked that the policy and programme is challengeable on its implementation part.

He said that the main thing is its implementation at a time when the nation is seriously hit from corona virus pandemic.

Opposition party leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said that it is a large document of words. It is unable to identify nation’s priority. “I had never seen such a large document!”, Deuba remarked.

Former prime minister and leader of the Socialist Party Baburam Bhattarai said that it is just traditional and unable to address the present challenges.

Another leader from the Socialist Party Rajendra Mahato remarked that the government has maintained just a formality, nothing is new. He also remarked that this is the largest ever policy and programme in the history.

During the time of pandemic, the government seems naïve in safeguarding economy, he remarked.

It cannot address the present crisis and people’s aspirations, he said.
