SAG firecrackers leave one injured

JANAKPURDHAM: A child was injured when a firecracker went off on Saturday morning.

Organisers of the 13th South Asian Games had not cleaned the area after the opening ceremony on Friday night. Eleven-year-old Alok Raut had collected the remains of firecrackers from the field outside the District Sports Development Committee covered hall.

Raut was seriously injured when a firecracker that did not blast during the opening ceremony went off while he was playing with them. After primary treatment at the Provincial Hospital in Janakpurdham, Raut was taken to BP Koirala Institute of Health Science in Dharan, where he was admitted, Chief District Officer Pradeep Raj Kandel confirmed.

“The incident occurred due to carelessness of National Sports Council staff and they should take responsibility,” Kandel added. “We are searching for the culprits.”
