Kathmandu, 7 December: The government is planning to bring Melamchi’s water to Kathmandu by July next year. Along with assignment of new construction contractor, construction works has resumed after 11 months and the government has set new date to supply Melamchi’s water.
However, the Melamchi water cannot meet the demand of Kathmanduites, reports Naya Patrika daily.
Present demand of Kathmandu Valley’s drinking water is 420 litre per day. After Melamchi’s water will be supplied, 170 litre water will be added. Along with the Melamchi water, total water available in Kathmandu will reach 310 litre. It will fulfill the demand of 3.1 million people in Kathmandu. Remaining 1.1 people will face scarcity of drinking water, the daily has reported.
